History of St Francis bay
Category History of St Francis Bay
St Francis is divided in to three areas namely "The Bay', 'The Port' and lastly "The Cape"
The name St Francis was given to this stretch of coastline by a Portuguese sailor in 1575 to honour the Patron Saint of Sailors (St Francis)
In 1954 the sugar tycoon Leighton Hulett bought a large piece of land that was situated in St Francis, and he had a vision. His vision was to add a marina as well as a man-made canal system which would open into the Kromme River which in turn runs out into the Indian ocean. The typographical lay of the land made this a prime location for his vision. He also lay down very strict building guideline which is still prevalent today.
St Francis and Cape St Francis was put on the international holiday destination and surfing map with the iconic 1969 documentary movie "The Endless Summer"
These days St Francis is known for much more with the St Francis Bay Canals becoming one of the most coveted residential and holiday destination in South Africa and the World. The property market in St Francis in the last few years have boomed and the demand for a property on the Canals with Canal access is at an all time high. There are roughly 500 built properties on the Canals which cannot expand as a result of the geographical location. This gives the Canals and elite status when it comes to real-estate. This opportunity to buy a house with views of the Sea, Canals and the Baviaanskloof Mountains is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity.
